Commuter Riding
Getting from one side of Ballarat to the other need not be a survival test.  A growing network of on-road lanes and some preferred routes will help you navigate safely. For a map and rider survival tips read on...

We show you where the on-road lanes are marked and how to get from there to the next.  Whether you are riding to school, to work, to the shops, to sports or just visiting friends, the Ballarat Commuter Map provides you with all the information to make your trip as safe as possible.  It even shows you the location of public toilets if you get caught short, and bike shops if you need urgent repairs.

img_1657.jpg Like most older cities, Ballarat’s on-road network of bike lanes is not continuous.  There are gaps that you will need to negotiate.  But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get out on your bike and get around the city.  After all, your bike is justifiably to be considered your Freedom Machine.  It frees you from the cost and environmental impact of running a car, it's a great form of exercise, and it allows you to park at the front door of your destination!  Just throw the leg and be on your way.  -If only other relationships were as easy as the one you will soon be enjoying with your bike.  But you will need to make that first move to become acquainted with the pleasures it offers.  Don’t make your bike a garage wallflower!  Go and say hello to Freedom…

Hard copies of these are available as the Ballarat Commuter and Touring Map, which can be found at any of Ballarat’s official tourist centres (Eureka Stockade, Gallery, Gardens Conservatory, Sovereign Hill, Town Hall/Phoenix Place), Ballarat Railway Station and public libraries.  For people in Melbourne, you may be able to pick up a copy at Information Victoria, VicRoads Head Office, or Bicycle Victoria.
